What A Writer Would Like

  • Complete quiet when we ask for it (Or want it. Or need it.)
  • Meals to magical be made so we don’t have to think about them
  • Snacks available at the snap of a finger (Non-messy please, so we don’t leave crumbs like a trail)
  • That elusive word we are trying to remember to appear on our page
  • Editing to just not exist
  • Research to not be so distracting!
  • Our characters to behave themselves, name themselves, give us a pep talk about their history, basically care for themselves like adults and not our brain child…
  • The weather to always be cool, wet, sunny, bright, dreary, whatever fits your current writing mood
  • A perfect music soundtrack that reads our mind and adjusts to fit the scene we are writing
  • More time in our days would be nice…
  • About a dozen other things
  • This book to just write itself!

Sigh, maybe someday in a perfect world 🙂

The Legacy of the Writer

What exactly is a legacy? The dictionary defines it as anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor. Much like the word “heritage” which is
something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth; an inherited lot or portion.

That is wonderful and all, but what does that have to do with writing and being an author? A lot. If you are a writer or an author, you are creating your legacy right now. You are handing down to the future a gift of words.

In an imaginary world, a map helps you and your readers keep your sites, place names and points of interest straight! It doesn’t have to be detailed or elaborate, it can be just enough to help your readers understand the lay of the land.

Authors and Their Music

After I wrote this post, I started thinking about the importance of music in author’s lives. If there is one other thing that seems to be the most important to an author besides the words they work with, it is the music they listen too. Famous authors down through the ages have listened to everything from pianoforte music, to Mozart, to indie bands and the Beatles to inspire them. And yes, even animals can help.
