Because just like paper and its amazing history, pens and the tools we write with have a history all their own just as fascinating!

Because the Words…
Why does a writer write? Because the words call to us. The stories won’t tell themselves. If there is one thing authors all have in common, it is their love of words. Words are our paint. Our clay. Our plants in our garden. Building our imaginary worlds with words makes us architects.
Book Review: The Artist’s Way
Over the winter months, I recently got the opportunity to dig into this amazing book! I had been feeling the need to get back to my artistic roots and my brother recommended this book to me. I am glad he did! It was one of the most thought-provoking books I have ever read about what it means to create and what it means to be an artist.
What A Writer Would Like
- Complete quiet when we ask for it (Or want it. Or need it.)
- Meals to magical be made so we don’t have to think about them
- Snacks available at the snap of a finger (Non-messy please, so we don’t leave crumbs like a trail)
- That elusive word we are trying to remember to appear on our page
- Editing to just not exist
- Research to not be so distracting!
- Our characters to behave themselves, name themselves, give us a pep talk about their history, basically care for themselves like adults and not our brain child…
- The weather to always be cool, wet, sunny, bright, dreary, whatever fits your current writing mood
- A perfect music soundtrack that reads our mind and adjusts to fit the scene we are writing
- More time in our days would be nice…
- About a dozen other things
- This book to just write itself!
Sigh, maybe someday in a perfect world 🙂
The Legacy of the Writer
What exactly is a legacy? The dictionary defines it as anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor. Much like the word “heritage” which is
something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth; an inherited lot or portion.
So, legacy is something that is given to us from the past while a heritage is something that belongs to you by reason of your birth.
That is wonderful and all, but what does that have to do with writing and being an author? A lot. If you are a writer or an author, you are creating your legacy right now. You are handing down to the future a gift of words.
The Things that Inspire Me: Paper
Yes, something as simple as paper can be inspiring. Paper is the material that some of the greatest thoughts have been printed and written upon. Such a humble substance, but with such an amazing history!

Literary Foods: Little Women and a Civil War Treat
Little Women has been one of my most favorite books since I was a teenager. Surprisingly, I didn’t read the whole book through until I was around 15 or 16, but the movie has always been one of my go-to comfort films. Probably because it was one of the very first period drama movies I watched and actually enjoyed. 🙂
When I was thinking about a recipe to try that reminded me of Little Women, I was inspired by the short passage from the book about the Christmas breakfast that the March sisters so willingly give up to others.
