What I learned writing the first draft of my novel…
Writing my very own novel has always been a dream of mine. I actually finished the first draft of my first novel in 2016. I have only taken a peek or two at it since then though I eventually plan to dig into it deeper and refine it more. I am now in the midst of banging out the words of my second novel set in a totally different time period and place.
But, I learned some very valuable lessons from writing my first novel that helped give me the confidence to even attempt a second try at another story idea. I want to share them with you (in convenient bullet form of course!)

The Things That Inspire Me: Pens
Because just like paper and its amazing history, pens and the tools we write with have a history all their own just as fascinating!
The Top Eight Books I Could Reread Forever…
I don’t often have time to re-read books these days. There are so many books in my TBR pile still and I feel like I am discovering new things to read everyday! But, every once in a while I love to pick up one of my old favorites and peruse the pages again. There is comfort in knowing how the story ends. And re-reading books always reminds me of the first time I read it and why I fell in love with it in the first place.

Music for Inspiration
David Arkenstone is one of my very favorite musical artists. His talent stretches across several musical genres and I have always been able to find something that matches my writing mood. 🙂
I like this song because though it’s unusual and interesting, it’s not so upbeat that it also can’t fade into the background as you write.
How about you? What music are you listening to that inspires your writing today?
Some Favorite Authors…
As writers, we all have those particular authors who inspire us and teach us. We love their stories and read them again and again. Maybe they are the authors who first got us interested in writing our own stories. Maybe they were the authors who encouraged us that, “If they did it, so can I!” 🙂 We pick up every book we find by them, because we know we will learn something new or enjoy yet another fabulous tale.
Because the Words…
Why does a writer write? Because the words call to us. The stories won’t tell themselves. If there is one thing authors all have in common, it is their love of words. Words are our paint. Our clay. Our plants in our garden. Building our imaginary worlds with words makes us architects.
